Your First Visit to Our Bridport Practice

You will be warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. Help is on its way!

On your first visit we will ask you a lot of detailed questions about your current condition and your health status as well as a detailed past medical history and a family medical history. we will ask about your lifestyle, your job, your family, your hobbies. In other words we want to get to know you. Some of the questions may seem a little irrelevant to you but they help us to build up a whole picture, after all it is you that we want to see, not just a condition in isolation.

We will then ask you to undress down to your underwear- we can provide you with a gown and shorts if you need so don't worry if you forgot to wear any!- and will give you a physical examination, again this will not just involve looking at the part that is troubling you but we will check out your health generally. The purpose of the exam is to try to get the root of what is causing your problem.

If we feel that we need to do further tests or require imaging, such as X-Ray or Ultrasound we will discuss this with you and we can make the appropriate arrangements. We will probably give you some treatment on your first visit, but this will depend on you as an individual, however we will discuss what we are doing as we do it and you are welcome to ask questions at any time.

After the consultation we will arrange another appointment with you to discuss the findings and an appropriate management plan with you. You are the boss and we will take note of any concerns that you have so that the care we give will be the very best we can offer you.

The whole consultation should last about an hour but please allow yourself a little extra time at the beginning so that we can fill in the forms to get all you details correct.
